•Paganism & that book•

So, exactly what is Paganism in the bible?

I honestly don’t know because…

I never read that book!

But I’d rather talk about what the term Paganism actually means.

When we say “Pagan” or “Paganism” today, we tend to think it’s just one thing. But it’s not. It’s really an umbrella term for many different tribes across Europe. No culture actually called themselves “Pagans”.

Now I don’t tell you this to make you feel detached, but…

The term “Pagan” (it’s actually Paganus) was a name that the “holy” Roman Empire gave to any tribe of people who were not christianized. This is also were the term “barbarian” comes from.

These were derogatory slurs!

We don’t consider them negative today, but I assure you, back then it meant your people could be slaughtered in the name of christianity.

Don’t worry. It’s totally OKAY to continue using the terms “Pagan” & “Paganism” because we all understand the general meaning and we don’t consider it to be a negative.

So if you're brave, care to indulge in some jewelry that would have gotten you killed once upon a time? 😘
