The Sun

Its warmth melts the glaciers and frost during the last Ice Age of Eurasia.

Uniquely crafted entirely by hand in sterling silver, these hoop earrings pay tribute to the Gods of the sun. Three hammered bars of silver adorn each hoop and represent the rays of the sun.

Origins...

It brings us fertility, warmth and life. The Sun is life-giving, it is necessary for plant-growth, and everything that exists. There is no Agriculture without the Sun. We do not get enough Vitamin D without the Sun. The Sun is important. Even ancient hunter gatherers and Neolithic Farmers knew that. And they worshipped that force and power, and that worship is well known.

Latin “Sol” for “Sun” was known amongst the Romans, and they worshipped “Sol” when Rome was founded. But Sol is way older than that. “Sol” derives from Proto-Indo-European culture, also known as Helios in Greek Mythology and Surya in Sanskrit. Tacitus tells us that “Sol” had its own temple, and a ritual calender in accordance with called Sol Indiges.

Sol Invictus was a God, worshipped from the Near East in Syria and other Eastern cults.
Tiwaz was another Sky-God that might be related to a Sun-deity and is of Proto-Indo-European origin as its original name “deiwós” literally means “to shine”. This is important if we want to understand the origin of the norse God BalduR.
 
We see, that many solar and sky deities are very ancient and old. The word “Sun” derives from to the Proto-Germanic dialect (according to Grimm’s law) “sunnǭ”. In ancient Egypt, the Sun was tied to Ra and Horus and in Hindu-Mythology, the Sun God is connected to Mithra. Mithraism is very important in order to understand the concept of winter solstice and its connection to the christian Christmas.
 
The Sun as a life-giving force was worshipped as divine and sacred.

I absolutely love these earrings. This is my second pair because I unfortunately lost a single earring and I missed them so much that I had to get another pair. Beautiful, lightweight and they get so many compliments. Thank you!

Absolutely perfect!

I just received my earrings yesterday and wore them all day. They are so lightweight and comfortable that I completely forgot I even had them on. They exceeded my expectations! Beautiful and comfortable.

Something I’ve been thinking about lately. If there’s one thing I would’ve done differently early on, it’s this: I would have invested in casting equipment much sooner. When I started out in 2011, I spent years learning as many jewelry techniques as possible. And I don’t regret that, I loved it. It taught me patience, problem-solving, and respect for the process. But casting was how I first learned jewelry back in a high school metals class in 1999/2000. If I’d trusted that foundation earlier and leaned into it, it would have saved me a lot of years of circling, experimenting, and hitting the same limits over and over. The journey was wrong, just longer than it needed to be. Every piece I make now carries all of that with it. The learning, the detours, the slow build. Just something I wanted to share, artist to artist. 🖤

My husband is from Bavaria (southern Germany) and I originally made this Krampus pendant for him. The Krampusnacht traditions belong to his culture, and it was so important to me to really bring this pendant alive and make it as accurate as possible. When I added him to my shop, I couldn’t believe how many of you loved him as much as I do! He’s super-small lost wax cast in my home studio (only 3 at a time).
