From Proto-Germanic *ehwaz meaning “horse” from PIE-root eikos, representing motion, transition.
It is attested in the Anglo-Saxon Rune poem it talks about finding comfort in motion, change, traveling. Ehwaz is a Rune of change, of transformation and leaving the old behind.
A horse is mobility, freedom and independence, it is strong and can help out on the homestead and on travels. The horse is also present in norse Mythology as Odin himself owns a horse with eight-legged horse called Sleipnir.
Sleipnir might indicate shamanic travels into the lower and higher regions of Yggdrasil and it is deeply associated with the spiritual realms.
